to-be-carried
To Be Carried

To Be Carried emerged from a realisation that flow is not limited to the creative process. I find it while painting, making jewellery, or writing. I enter the studio, put on music, silence notifications, and allow myself to become fully absorbed in the work. At a certain point, time dissolves, or perhaps I dissolve into time. Decisions emerge intuitively. The work seems to know where it is going before I do.

Over time, I realised that the same state can appear far beyond the studio, within life itself. This painting was created during a period in which I found myself moving through life in much the same way I move through the creative process.

It was a time of profound openness, of trusting a feeling before I could fully explain it. I experienced it in moments of closeness, in touch, in shared silence, and in the act of looking into someone's eyes and recognising something familiar. My mind continued to search for certainty, but something deeper had already found its way.

When I look at the composition, I see a landscape in motion. The blue form becomes a river carrying everything forward. The dark shapes resemble stones encountered along the way, obstacles that alter the flow but cannot stop it. The yellow shapes appear as sources of warmth and light. I imagine them as two Suns approaching one another, gradually sharing the same horizon.

The pale structure surrounding the composition feels like a cave, a shelter, or a threshold. It suggests the perspective of someone standing between what is known and what remains unseen, gathering enough courage to step further into the unknown.

Like water following the shape of a riverbed, we are carried towards places we could never have planned for ourselves. Sometimes the most courageous act is not holding on tighter, but allowing ourselves to be carried.

Acrylic and oil on canvas
120 × 150 cm
2026
Original artwork, signed on the back
Unframed
Worldwide shipping available upon request
