Unmasking
Unmasking is a process, not a final destination.
I began this painting in 2023, shortly after becoming a mother. It was a time when I felt myself dissolving — into the needs of my child, the expectations of others, and the quiet erasure of my own voice.
I invited my little son to paint with me. His movements were wild, fearless, and pure, untouched by the pressure of outcome. I watched him work with awe. His freedom taught me something I had forgotten.
For two years, this canvas hung above my bed as a silent witness to my transformation, a tether to the self I was trying not to lose.
In 2025, I returned to it alone. I completed it with my own hand, on my own terms. No longer trying to be the perfect partner, the perfect daughter, the perfect mother — just me peeling away the layers I no longer need.
This painting is a gesture toward freedom.
